I am not going to be smug about this, but either before or better after your day one firearms training, you need to decide if you are going to be able to shoot someone. To kill someone. Should it ever be absolutely necessary to. If you are not going to be able to do it, as best you can discern that ahead of time, DO NOT purchase or possess a firearm.

As the saying goes, when you have a firearm, everyone in the room with you has that firearm, and you may need to prevent each of them from getting that firearm and using it against you. In this case, if the home owner, had not had a gun that he was not going to be mentally able to utilize when he needed to, the criminal would have had to beat him to death. The fact of the matter is that criminals have no fear.  They know if you do, and they will exploit it.

Don’t possess a gun you are not capable of using, don’t ever pull a gun that you are not intending to use, don’t use a gun that isn’t intended to kill someone or something.

Harsh, but absolutely true.
